Bottom leaks = seal failure or crack. Most are fixable in 5 minutes with no tools. Work through these in order — stops 90% of leaks.
The rubber seal between reservoir and base hardens over time. Remove reservoir, find the seal ring (usually black rubber), clean both sides with warm soapy water, dry, apply thin layer of food-grade silicone grease. Reseat firmly.
Order replacement seal kit for your model. Takes 10 minutes to swap. Search '[Brand] [Model] water tank seal' or 'bottom gasket'. Kits run $8-15.
If the leak is from a crack in the heating element housing (plastic base), repair not worth it. Budget models under $50 = replace. Mid-tier $80-150 = worth fixing if under 3 years old.
Pro tip: Run 1 cup white vinegar + 1 cup water through monthly. Mineral buildup clogs valves and degrades seals faster — this extends life 2-3 years.
