Organize a Cluttered Garage on a Budget

Most people buy storage first, then organize. That's backwards. The correct order: purge → categorize → use what you have → buy only what's missing. You'll spend 60% less this way.

Phase 1: The Purge (Free, 2-4 hours)

2. Clear storage bins ($20-40 for 6-8) — seasonal/holiday items. Label with contents + date last opened.
3. Magnetic tool strip ($12-18) — holds screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches on the wall. Saves drawer space.
4. Overhead ceiling rack ($40-60) — stores bulky seasonal items (camping gear, coolers) out of the way.

Layout Strategy

• Hot zone (front, waist-high): Tools and items you use weekly.

Maintenance Rule

One in, one out. Buy a new drill? Donate the old one. New bikes? Old bikes go on Marketplace. This prevents re-cluttering.
