Change Your Windshield Wiper Blades in 5 Minutes

Most people overpay for dealer installation. This is a 5-minute job with zero tools required — wipers use a simple clip system designed for DIY replacement.

Before You Buy

1. Measure your current blades: driver side is usually 24-26", passenger 18-20". Check owner's manual or the blade itself for exact size.
2. Note the attachment type: 95% are hook-style or J-hook (standard clip). Some newer cars use pin-type or bayonet mounts — check before buying.

Installation Steps

1. Lift the wiper arm away from windshield until it locks in vertical position (like you're cleaning the glass).
2. Press the tab on the underside of the blade where it meets the arm. While pressing, slide the old blade DOWN toward the base of the arm. It will slide off the hook.
3. Slide the new blade UP onto the hook until you hear a click. Tug gently to confirm it's locked.
4. Lower the arm slowly — don't let it snap back onto the glass.
5. Repeat for passenger side.

Common mistake: Forcing the blade at the wrong angle. The blade should slide parallel to the arm, not pull straight off.

When to Replace

• Streaking or skipping even after cleaning the blades
• Visible cracks or torn rubber
• Every 6-12 months as preventive maintenance (rubber degrades from sun/heat)

Pro tip: Replace both blades at once even if only one is worn — the other is likely close behind. Clean your windshield with glass cleaner after installing new blades for best performance. If new blades still streak, your windshield may have wax buildup — use rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cloth to deep-clean the glass.
