Most forgotten subscriptions survive because they hide in your bank statement as cryptic names. Here's the systematic fix: find it, identify it, cancel it.
If the charge name is cryptic ("AMZN Mktp", "GOOGLE *Service", "PayPal *XYZCO"):
Option A: Log into the service → Account Settings → Billing/Subscriptions → Cancel. Most services let you finish your paid period.
Option B (if you forgot login): Use email "forgot password" to reset access, then cancel normally.
Option C (nuclear option): Call your bank/card issuer to block future charges from that merchant. Warning: This does NOT cancel the subscription — the company still considers you subscribed and may send collections notices. Always cancel properly when possible.
Pro tip: Screenshot your cancellation confirmation and save the email. Some companies "forget" to cancel and claim you never requested it. Proof wins chargebacks.
